Mayor Glover Hosts Town Hall at Valencia Park

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

Shreveport residents spoke out again Thursday night at Mayor Cedric Glover's Town Hall meeting. This is the second in a series of town halls.

The Dog Park issue sparked some heated debate between Mayor Glover and dog park supporters but Glover said he wanted Thursday's meeting to focus on other, more important issues facing the city. However, that didn't stop people gathering at the last town hall meeting from discussing the dog park issue. Glover intended to discuss issues facing the city like streets, water and sewer rates and an update on the 2011 Bond Issue but the dog park ended up dominating the discussion at the town hall at Fertita's in July.

Thursday night, Valencia's was filled with people wanting to dialogue with the mayor on issues facing the city. Among those issues, the pending Department of Justice Consent Decree which will lead to a water and sewer rate hike, possibly scheduled for October of this year. Another topic Glover wants to dialogue with the people of Shreveport about is an update on the 2011 bond issue where voters approved $175 million dollars for upgrades to things like streets, drainage, water and sewer, public safety and SPAR.

While Glover said he couldn't hold a town hall meeting without discussing the Dog Park, he reiterated his plan to have the park at an established park and the discussion transitioned to Q and A from those in attendance. Meeting attendees told KTBS 3 News that they thought Thursday's meeting was a lot more productive because the dog park discussion didn't become a debate. Mayor Glover has scheduled a third town hall meeting for Monday, August 5th at 5:30 at RiverView Hall.
