Authorities say a Texas bank employee and her husband were held at gunpoint at their house, then forced to go take out money where the woman worked before the plot ended with their captors shot.
The unusual robbery-turned-shooting happened Thursday near Houston.
Sgt. Andrew Weido of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office said investigators believe the two men who threatened the couple knew the woman worked at the First National Bank of Eagle Lake in Columbus.
The heist ended on the drive back from the bank. He said the bank employee's husband was able to access a firearm in the car and shoot their captors.
One was pronounced dead and the other hospitalized.
Investigators have not released the name of the couple.
