SFD under fire after three firefighters arrested

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

The Shreveport Fire Department continues to deal with alleged events that put the department in a bad light.

Three firefighters have been arrested in connection to an inappropriate incident at Fire Station 8, located near the fair grounds.

Shreveport Police arrested 37-year-old Billy Glass, Tuesday. Authorities recently arrested 26-year-old Clint Wayne Richardson and 50-year-old Derrick Harris.

All three are charged with one count each of cruelty to the infirm and principal to prostitution.

"This is an isolated incident that happened at one station, on one shift," said Chief Fred Sanders, a department spokesperson. "It does not affect the other 22 stations in the city of Shreveport."

Sanders said all of the stations are staffed and ready to protect the different neighborhoods.

The six vacant spots at Station 8 are filled by experienced veterans that know the area.

People who live around the station are surprised by the news, and many are like Mason Bill, unsure what to think.

"I really can't say yet," said Bill. "I've got to get into it more. Then I can understand it."

Eighty-year-old Bill has lived less than a block from Station 8 for 15 years. He said he knows a few of the guys over there, and even donated money to them for fundraisers.

"When something goes on around here, they are on their job," he said.

And that's what the department wants to everyone to remember about the rest of the fire fighters.

"Over all the men and women of the Shreveport Fire Department are hardworking, honest people who show up for work everyday to give their best to the citizens of Shreveport," said Sanders. "And that's what our people are going to continue to do everyday."

The investigation continues and police believe more people could be arrested.
