This weekend's Red River Rivalry

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

Forty-six of the world's best fishermen will be on the Red River this weekend for the Forrest Wood Cup and its $500,000 top prize.  Each angler is allowed to keep five fish per day, which get weighed at day's end and the fisherman with the most weight over the four day event wins the top prize.  All the fish are kept alive and all are thrown back after being weighed. Fishermen will be on the water early in the morning.  Weigh-ins will be held at the Century Link Center in Bossier City each evening Thursday-Sunday at 5:00pm.  It is free and open to the public.

22-year old Jacob Wheeler, who became the youngest winner ever last year when the event was held on Lake Lanier outside Atlanta, Georgia, is back to defend his title.  Wheeler says no one has ever won this event twice, let alone back to back, and he would love to become the first.  Of course, Wheeler is thrilled about the prize money, but says the trophy means just as much, if not more and his unique place in a unique sport has him our Rountree Ford Athlete of the Week.
