An eastern Arkansas judge has removed two prosecutors from a Phillips County murder case.
Circuit Court Judge L.T. Simes on Friday issued the order to disqualify Prosecuting Attorney Fletcher Long and deputy prosecutor Todd Murray from the case of Tony Bernard Smith and appointing Little Rock lawyer Ronald Davis Jr. as a special prosecutor in the case.
Phone calls to the attorneys were not returned.
Smith is charged with capital murder in the death of Michael Campbell during a robbery in Helena-West Helena in 2011. Prosecutors have since questioned the evidence in the case and asked to dismiss the charge.
Simes has rejected the prosecutors' request.
