Ark La Tex In-Depth: Boat Gadgets

Posted: Updated:

As we have seen with the FLW Bass Tournament, bass fishing is big business. Having the right boat and having the right gear can lead to better success at fishing.

Bass boats are quite common in our area. They come in many shapes and sizes with various price ranges. Owning a boat or upgrading your rig may be easier than you think.

Water temperature gauges, depth finders, fish finders, GPS, trolling motor, lights and live wells. It can be mind boggling on what to buy for your boat.

Fishing guide Pete Daniels states "We have trim on these boats and these things will go 75 miles per hour. You don't have to go 75 miles per hour when the water is rough. Main thing is these big vee's on the front of these boats is there for a reason. They are there to cut the waves."

Daniels spends a lot of time adding bling to bass boats. and says

"Good electronics make for a great day on the water, not only will it tell you the depth it will tell you the water temperature. I always set up a clock on mine when I'm fishing tournaments so I can tell what time it is when I have to get back. Some have GPS you can set them up if you have brush that you have planted and you have the coordinates you can go right back to that brush pile. Now a-days they have the structure scan is a great tool to use you can drive around boat docks and it will shine under boat dock and show you if there is brush or fish under there."

And what about those cool looking sticks on the back of the boat?

Daniels like them. "Power poles is another thing. They are real popular on bass boats these days for shallow water fishing. If I come up on a school of fish I can put my power poles down and lock us in place.

Plus any fisherman needs a good trolling motor that has been properly mounted on the bow.

"We don't just screw these to the deck. We go in and hard bolt them to your deck. That way if you hit a stump it's not going to pull it off the deck and damage your boat. This little rod locks into this receiver which keeps your trolling motor from bouncing and getting damaged. Taking care of your equipment makes for a better day on the water" according to Daniels.
