An Orleans Parish Sheriff's deputy has been arrested for allegedly brining contraband into the parish jail.
Deputy Bryson Baptiste was booked Thursday on four counts each of malfeasance in office and introduction of contraband into a jail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
Sheriff Marlin Gusman, in a news release, did not indicate what kind of contraband the 24-year-old is accused of bringing into the facility. He did say the arrest is part of an ongoing effort to keep contraband out of the jail.
The Times-Picayune reports the contraband issue sparked national attention when videos shown in federal court depicted inmates doing drugs, guzzling beer and unloading a handgun inside a cell.
Baptiste, who was suspended without pay following his arrest, joined the sheriff's office in July.
