SABINE PARISH, La. -

The nearly week-long search for a local man allegedly abducted by a police officer has come to a disturbing end.

The body of 25-year-old Tony Procell was discovered over the weekend.

According to the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, authorities were notified around 3p.m. Sunday.

Authorities tell KTBS 3 News that a shovel and sunglasses resembling those of Procell were found by the father-in-law of the suspect. The father-in-law then contacted authorities and a search of the area ensued.

The evidence was located near Sand Point Road in Winn Parish, in the northeast part of Kisatchie National Forest in Winn Parish.

35-year-old Robert Barthelemy, a Natchitoches Police Officer, is accused of abducting Procell last week.

Barthelemy's father-in-law told authorities the shovel and glasses were found in a location in an area where the two men had previously gone duck hunting.

Barthelemy remains incarcerated and is now charged with first degree murder, in addition to, aggravated kidnapping and home invasion.

The body of Procell was transported to LSU Health in Shreveport for autopsy and identification. However, Sabine Sheriff Ronnie Richardson tells KTBS 3 News that doctors were able to make a match through tattoos and dental records. KTBS 3 News has also learned that Procell suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

The Procell family released the following statement:

"We would like to sincerely thank local law enforcement, the community, the media, and everyone involved in the efforts to bring Tony home. Also thank you to those who have taken up the heartfelt tasks of supporting the family during this difficult time. To see so much love in our community and the surrounding areas is amazing. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we have received. Tony was loved dearly by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed."

Barthelemy is being held in the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Sheriff Richardson says Barthelemy will likely remain there through his trial.

So far, no court appearances have been scheduled.
