Louisiana Nursery is once again partnering with Chimp Haven to help their garden grow. Last year, Chimp Haven planted and maintained two gardens to produce food for the chimpanzees. Supporters donated more than 100 fruit trees, berries, vines and lots and lots of vegetables. By growing food onsite Chimp Haven is able to save money, add novel items to the chimpanzees' diets, reduce their energy footprint by avoiding transportation cost and reduce pesticides entering our local ecosystem. We would like to continue expanding the fruit orchard and garden by adding additional peach, plum, pear, fig, pomegranate, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, muscadine and grapevines. It costs an average of $4,550 a week to feed our entire colony of chimpanzees.
