Cooper Tire merger concerns

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Arkansas -

India's Apollo Tyres is in the process of purchasing Cooper Tire and Rubber Company for about $2.5 billion dollars.

However, union officials say they have concerns about the acquisition.

The Texarkana plant employs more than 1,700 workers.

Union President David Boone says he has major concerns about Apollo's debt, as well as, their intentions for acquiring the company.

"Apollo could actually come in an get the network and shut the plant down, explained Boone. "We do not want this plant shut down. It will affect the four states area. We need to keep this plant open."

Cooper Tire has called a special meeting of its shareholders on September 30th to vote on the proposed acquisition of the company by Apollo Tyres.

In the meeting to be held in Ohio, the company has asked the shareholders to adopt the merger agreement with Apollo.
