4th Annual Going the Distance

Posted: Updated:

You can "Go the Distance" in the fight against cancer by participating in the 4th Annual Going the Distance 24-hour fun run. The organizers of Going the Distance are hoping to raise awareness about childhood cancer and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. More than 5,700 children are now being treated at St. Jude with thousands more expected to be diagnosed with cancer this year. It is the goal of Going the Distance to raise money to aid St. Jude by inviting people to make a monetary donation and sacrifice an hour of their day to run/walk as a symbolic gesture of the fight against cancer. Victims of cancer have to fight every hour with this disease. Will you give them one hour?

Where:

Preston Crownover Stadium

4301 Panther Dr.

Bossier City, LA 71112

When:

The Going the Distance 24-hour fun run will begin at 7 pm on September 6, 2013 at the start of

the Parkway football game against Calvary Baptist Academy. At this time, a group of selected

individuals will run throughout the game. When the game ends the track will be open for the public to join in. Our goal is to have someone moving on the track at all times until 7 pm on

September 7th.

Donations:

Monetary donations will be accepted at any time before or during the event. All proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Donations can be made in cash, by checks made out to St. Jude or by online donation at www.goingthedistanceforus.com. 100% of all donations will go to St. Jude.

Individuals who donate a minimum of $15.00 will receive a Going the Distance T-shirt.

Companies who wish to sponsor the 24-hour Fun Run can donate $250.00 and have their logos placed on the back of the Going the Distance t-shirt and receive advertising leading up to and throughout the event. Companies who donate $500 will also receive advertising at all Parkway home football games, basketball games and track meets.

Events:

Participants can come at any time during the 24-hour period to run by either scheduling a time

or just showing up. Throughout the fun run we will have music, food, and drinks as well as activities for children. We will wrap up the event with a celebration at 7 pm on September 7th where we will announce the total money raised and total miles ran for St. Jude.

To sign-up, simply fill out the form on the reverse side and mail it in or bring it on the day of the event. Thank you for making a difference and Going the Distance.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...
