Authorities working to identify body found in burned SUV

MILLER COUNTY, Ark. -

Authorities are working to positively identify a body found in a burned SUV early Thursday morning.

First responders were called to a vehicle fire around 4:30a.m. on U.S. Highway 67 & Miller County Road, north of Texarkana.

According to Arkansas State Police, a Chevy Trailblazer veered off the roadway, hit a tree, and burst into flames. Crews found the body inside the vehicle upon arrival.

Authorities say the vehicle was significantly damaged due to the collision and fire, the license plate and vehicle identification number were not legible.

At approximately 11a.m., authorities managed to locate a VIN on the vehicle.

Authorities now have the name of the registered owner and have contacted relatives.

The body found in the burned vehicle has not been positively identified as the owner, police are awaiting the results of DNA samples.

Remains were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock.
