BOSSIER PARISH, La. -

A small memorial is set up on the side of Highway 527 where Andrew Burks, 32, was hit by a car and died Friday night. It will not fill the large void left with his family.

"He was a good person at heart," Lonnie Burks, one of his cousins. "He was always helping people, would do anything for you. He wouldn't ask for money, or anything. That's just the type of person he was."

Lonnie Burks and Michelle Singleton question how the investigation into his death is handled. Neither of them were there when the accident happened, but said Thursday the stories from people who were near by when the accident happened don't match up with the information released on the news.

"If he was on the road, there shouldn't have been dirt flying, if he had been hit straight forward," said Lonnie Burks. "He was on the side of the road and on the side of the road."

"He wasn't an animal. He was a human being," said Singleton. "He leaves behind sisters, brothers and a niece. He left a whole family that cares about him a lot."

The State Police continue to investigation the accident. They checked out the scene again today as well as plan to reconstruct the accident.

"Before we go out and give the facts, we'd like to get all the facts," said Sgt. Cordell Williams with LSP. "We want to understand exactly what we're looking at and be sure the evidence says what happened and why it happened."

Burks cousins said they can understand if it was truly an accident, but would like to hear that from the driver, Tammy Owens.

They know an apology will not bring back Andrew Burks, but they think it might help in the healing process.
