Texarkana, Arkansas mayor reacts to board decision to rehire Smith Boldt

Posted: Updated:

The mayor of Texarkana, Arkansas is speaking out against the board's split decision to rehire a former city manager. Last Thursday, the Board of Directors voted four to two to rehire former city manager, Harold Boldt.

A large crowd showed up for the meeting to speak their minds on the issue. Mayor Wayne Smith, who was on a planned vacation, did not attend the meeting. He doesn't believe Boldt is the right person for the job.

"I'm disappointed that the board would not wait until I returned to Texarkana to participate in this most important vote and decision concerning Texarkana, Arkansas" says Smith.

Boldt was fired last March and given a $162,000 severance package. While the board voted to rehire Boldt, his contract is still pending.
