JEFFERSON, Tx. -

It's Aug. 24  and a joint paranormal investigation of ghostly activity in the first bed & breakfast in the state of Texas was apparently kicking off in a big way with some physical manifestations.

Haughton overnight guest Helen Helverson sensed something might not have been happy with her.

"I was coming out of my room and the door just slammed in my face and then it wouldn't open."

Right before that another group of people felt the floor shake in one of The Pride House rooms.

The visitors would be among the last to get the full Pride House experience. Three days later it would be gutted by fire.

On the Saturday before, a total of four paranormal investigators were creeping around The Pride House and the Jefferson Hotel  trying to communicate with the dead.

Ian and Erin Powell of "Spirits of the South" got married at The Pride House. They appeared in a 2012 episode of Bio channel's "My Ghost Story."

Erin told Bio that she saw the ghost of the little girl who died when her dress caught fire in The Pride House back in 1900.

Jeremy Jones of Texas Investigators & Paranologies makes a few devices that he says detect when a ghost is present.

The third investigator group, Martin and Stacy Bravo of Bravo Paranormal, builds a ghost-detecting device called a ghost box.

"What I do is take a regular radio and I build a circuit to where it scans non-stop and the common theory is that spirits can speak through this," says Martin Bravo.

Investigators Henry Maass and Nancy Savattere with Silent Wolf Paranormal Roulette also were on hand.

Joining the investigators was a crowd of about 20 people spending the night in either The Pride House or the Jefferson Hotel, which is about a mile down the road. All of them were hoping to communicate with or see a ghost.

During the creep walk through the Jefferson Hotel we stop in room 19.  Historians say that the bed in this room is the same bed a young bride hung herself over back in the 1800's after she was stood up at the altar.

At first there was no ghostly activity but after a while investigators say a ghost made its presence felt by setting off a paranormal detector sitting in the bathroom.

Over in the Pride House a different group is with investigator Erin Powell. The group feels the presence of a spirit and a ghost detector on the bed lights up.  All throughout the night till about 4 or 5 in the morning the investigators and people staying at the Pride House and the Jefferson Hotel continued going from room to room, building to building seeking to connect with the dead.  If you ask them, the mission was accomplished.

FOUR DAYS LATER:

Wednesday morning at about 3:00am 3 a.m. The Pride House went up in flames.  It was a total loss.  The owner Jenny Lovelace is devastated.  A preliminary investigation by the Jefferson Fire Department indicates that the fire was electrical in nature.

KTBS 3 News spoke with Lovelace about the fire. We asked her if she thinks the paranormal investigation or the ghost of the little girl had anything to do with the fire.  She says she doesn't' know; however an acquaintance told her that someone had taken a picture of the house when it was on fire and says in the photo you can see the silhouette of a little girl in the flames.

Lovelace says she not only lost a lot of her belongings in the fire she lost something she cherished -- The Pride House.  When we asked her about her plans for the property, Lovelace says she plans to rebuild, but understands it going to take a lot of work and money.
