Texarkana, Arkansas state audit request approved

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Arkansas -

An Arkansas Legislative Audit has been approved to investigate the spending, contracting and accounting practices of the city of Texarkana, Arkansas.

In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Mayor Wayne Smith says concerns raised by citizens led to the request for an audit of the city.

Prosecuting Attorney Carlton Jones, Representive Prissy Hickerson and State Senator Jimmy Hickey filed the state audit request.

In the letter, they asked that the audit be limited to the events surrounding the development of the Crossroads Business Park since 2006.

"It will answer the unanswered questions," said Mayor Smith. "It will removed the finger pointing and provide independent auditors to look at it and come up with a conclusion."

Mayor Smith says the audit was initiated before the proposal to rehire City Manager Harold Boldt.
