Wave of frustration

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

It was a big night in Ruston as Louisiana Tech played its first-ever conference game in Conference USA Thursday, until the Bulldogs kicked off against Tulane.  Joe Montana was on hand to watch his son Nick, who plays quarterback for Tulane, and former Tech great Terry Bradshaw was there too, and the way the night went, the Bulldogs wished he was still quarterback.

Nick Montana threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns to help Tulane rally for a 24-15 win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday night.

The Green Wave (2-1, 1-0 Conference USA) trailed 9-7 at halftime before Lorenzo Moss made an interception to set up a 51-yard field goal by Cairo Santos.

Montana helped Tulane put the game out of reach late in the third quarter, leading a 94-yard, 11-play drive culminating with a 38-yard scoring pass to Xavier Rush. Montana, finished 20-for-36 passing.

Orleans Darkwa added a one-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left in the game to make it 24-9 after Louisiana Tech (1-2, 0-1) turned the ball over inside its own 20. Rob Kelley rushed for 87 yards and Darkwa ran for 68 for Tulane.

Ryan Higgins threw a late scoring pass and Kyle Fischer kicked three field goals for the Bulldogs.
