Get fit and become a gladiator

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

It's been voted by SB Magazine as the best new workout program in Shreveport-Bossier.

In just a couple of years, it has caught on like wildfire.

Camp Gladiator is inspiring people of all ages, shapes and sizes to get outside and get moving.

The program started five years ago in Texas. It expanded to northwest Louisiana and took off from there.

"I've lost 25 pounds since I've started, so it's definitely a great thing to do to get started and lose weight," said gladiator Mona Vienne.

"I like the group environment, because it's fun and it's better than having to go to the gym by yourself," said gladiator Libby Hackney.

Each camp lasts for four weeks with a week off in between.

The classes are held outside. No working out in a stuffy gym for these gladiators.

"It's an outdoor fitness boot camp, but it's also very community oriented too. We focus on doing interactive games and knowing each other's names," said trainer Amy Maranto.

Camp Gladiator trainers create routines that can match anyone's fitness level. So, whether you're a top athlete or a beginner you can fit in and never get bored.

"We pride ourselves on not having the same workout more than once. You can come out from this year in November to next year in November and not see the same workout twice," said Orie Dyas.

Since September marks the fifth year of Camp Gladiator, the program is selling memberships at a big discount of

$50 for a month.

A sudden lurch in a creeping landslide in the northwest Wyoming resort town of Jackson split a house in two and forced workers to abandon efforts to stabilize the hillside.
No one can say precisely when the mountainside collapsing into this Wyoming resort town will give way. But it appears increasingly likely that when it does, it's going to take a piece of Jackson with it.
