Allendale Home Suffers Heavy Damage from Evening Fire

Posted: Updated:

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 205 Leroy Street at 8:50 PM Tuesday evening for a reported house fire. Fire Crews arrived on scene from Fire Station #4 at 8:53 PM to find a one story wood frame home with heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of the home.

Upon arrival the lone female occupant had already escaped the structure safely. Fire crews made entry from the back and battle the blaze from the unburned portion of the home.

However, the fire spread quickly into the attic space engulfing the front of the home causing the firefighters to retreat and fight the fire from the outside and with the master stream on Engine 4.

The fire was knocked down quickly with the large volume of water from the master stream allowing firefighters to extinguish the remainder of the fire with hand lines. The fire was brought under control at 9:06 PM.

The occupant of the home stated she had lit a candle earlier and fell asleep. She awoke when she heard popping noises realizing the home was on fire. The home suffered heavy fire damage. There were no injuries and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
