Legislator Report Card

Posted: Updated:

A failing grade: an "F". That's what one local lawmaker received from the Louisiana Association of Educators.

Lawmakers were graded on a 106 point scale, with a 50 being "F"  and anything above 105 being an "A+."

Rep. Barbara Norton, who got an " A+," says the report card shows that legislators have a real concern about education.

Rep. Jeff Thompson told KTBS 3 News he was surprised when he saw that he got a "C+."

Senator Alan Seabaugh got an " F" and  Sen. Barrow Peacock  a " D-,"  although Peacock voted the exact same way as other lawmakers who got an "A" on the twelve bills they were graded on.

"They did not just grade us on our voting record," Peacock told Education Reporter Eric James. "It is the opinion of the union on how we did  and I think that is something you have to take in consideration."

Rep. Patrick Williams who got a "B-" also has a bit of an issue with how the association graded him. He too voted the exact same way as other lawmaker who got an "A."

The association president says the bills they graded the lawmakers on dealt with either retirement or classroom related issues.

Sen. Seabaugh says he favored 75% of the bills that the LAE supported and feels he only got an "F" because the LAE doesn't like him because he supports change when it comes to education.
