Area Man Dies in Overnight Blaze

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

One person is dead after an early morning fire at a Shreveport duplex.

The call came in just before 2am in the 4600 block of Southern Avenue, that's in the South
Highlands area of Shreveport near Interstate 49.

When fire crews arrived they say flames were visible.

Investigators tell KTBS 51 year-old Steven Pavlika was found dead in the living room of the upstairs apartment.

One person was in the downstairs apartment, but made it out safely.

There's no word on an exact cause of the blaze, but early indications lead investigators to believe that the fire was caused by the electrical wiring on the second floor porch of the home.

"We have a couple of investigators on this fire along with ATF because it's a fatality so there's a lot of people working on it trying to determine what the cause was" says Shreveport Fire Chief Scott Wolverton.

This is the 5th fire death in Shreveport this year.
