One person dead following crash in DeSoto Parish

Posted: Updated:

A two vehicle crash in DeSoto Parish killed a woman from Texas.

Louisiana State Police responded to the crash at 4:17 p.m. Tuesday on LA Hwy 765 near its intersection with LA Hwy 764. The crash occurred when a northbound 2003 Honda Accord driven by 20-year-old Mary Riney of Frisco, TX crossed the center line in a curve and traveled into the path of a southbound 2013 Ford Focus driven by 63-year-old Betty Reynolds of Carthage, TX.

Authorities say that in an effort to avoid a collision, the Ford veered onto the northbound shoulder and was struck by the Honda.

Police say all vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts. Reynolds received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Riney and a passenger in the Honda, 21-year-old Taylor Hudson of Henderson, TX, received moderate injuries and were transported to LSU Medical Center for treatment.

Excessive speed on the part of Riney is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Riney was charged with careless operation. Routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis and the crash remains under investigation.
