Bricks Being Thrown From I-49 Over Pass in Natchitoches

Posted: Updated:
NATCHITOCHES, La. -

In Natchitoches Parish, off I-49 near the Oak Grove Community, vandals are tossing objects onto cars below. Police are following up on leads on this case as we speak. They say the objects that are being thrown are bricks and can be extremely dangerous. A family who happened to be driving home to Natchitoches fell victim to the vandals.

LaToya and Jodie LaCour live in Natchitoches. They were driving along I-49 when someone threw a brick onto their car from an overpass bridge. "If it had been half a second later or something, it probably would have come through the top of the windshield and I wouldn't be talking to you today," Jodie said. LaToya described the event, "Out of nowhere, bam, it just hit the hood and the windshield and the next thing you know, we got glass everywhere."

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office says this isn't the first time this has happened. Over the last 3 months, they've received a handful of calls with the same story near the Eight Mile Bridge. The LaCour's say they had more than $3,500 dollars worth of damage to their car. Jodie said, "It smashed the window out, broke the arm off the car, did some damage to the hood, smashed the dashboard of the car." LaToya said, "It makes us a little more cautious when we're traveling I-49 and get near those overpasses."

And now the LaCours have this message for those responsible: "Fun and games gotta stop somewhere, what could have been a typical night of fun could've ended with someone's life."
