Bridge construction crews damage Bossier City home

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, La. -

Pounding by bridge construction crews left a Bossier City homeowner with a pounding headache. We're talking about damage to his home that he thinks is in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Billy Rahman has tiles inside his house that are no longer level. He has marked them with blue tape. He also has cracks on tile outside his home, landscaping rocks falling apart, a leaky water line to the pool. And that pool, the bottom has a soft spot in the plaster. Back inside, more cracks are in his ceilings.

"I've got the ceiling that's cracking almost from wall to wall" says Rahman.

Rahman says it's from the pounding by the construction crew that have been pile driving for the new bridge that runs behind Rahman's house in Stockwell Place.

The glass of water ripples with each strike as it sat atop an exterior wall at Rahman's house; a wall that's also now cracked.

"Every time they pounded, it shook the whole grounds around here" claims Rahman.

Rahman believes the tight deadline to get this bridge replaced before school traffic started rolling last month, forced the company to do the job too fast and that caused the damage to his property.

Rahman says "they were taking the pilings, instead of doing it the proper way, which would be drilling first, then dropping these and hitting them on a low setting which they didn't do. They had it on the highest setting because the noise, the loud, the shaking of the houses, it was just extreme."

For three months, Rahman has been going back and forth with local and state road officials and the company hired to replace the bridge, James Construction. Finally, Rahman got a glimmer of good news from their risk management office.

James Construction employee: "I mailed you a claim form. Did you receive it yet?"

Billy Rahman: "No."

Rahman anxiously awaits the chance to get the damage to his home repaired and paid for.

"I hope they do the right thing" says Rahman.

But, Rahman's hope is already fading. He says he has not received that claim form that James Construction said was mailed last Tuesday from Baton Rouge. He's now seeking legal advice.

James Construction referred us to their Vice President in Ruston for comment. We have not heard back.
