ArkLaTex Best crossing guard brightens up everyone's day

SHREVEPORT, La. -

It's every morning they tell me, just as the sun begins to rise over Line Avenue, there in the midst of the rush hour stress of getting the kids to school and yourself to work, that no fun part of the day, there in the middle of just plain ole Monday morning, I found her.

They call her Miss. Emma. She's just another crossing guard who helps the occasional kids across the street and she slows you down by just doing her job. Except, her job is not what you think it is.

"There's always going to be problems, you don't have to moan and groan, you get out there and enjoy your life" says Miss. Emma.

A few years back, Miss. Emma nearly lost her foot. The fork lift accident crippled her and doctors said she might never walk again.

She still hobbles a little but when she puts those ear phones in and turns up that music, oh boy you better hold on.

"I want to know what music she is listening to in those ear phones."

"She is wonderful, she makes our mornings eventful."

"The kids hanging out in the window hollering at me and me at them and I be dancing and they dance with me and we have a blast" says Miss. Emma.

You know I have always believed we were born with gifts. Some people can sing, others dance, still others have the gift of joy and that's what they see every morning at Line Avenue and Eden, just as the sun comes up.

"They say I make their day, it's a thrill and a blessing you have given to somebody you never thought. When I make somebody happy on this corner, I'm happy" says Miss. Emma.
