Recall petitions filed on city officials

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Arkansas -

A Texarkana, Arkansas group has started the process of recalling the four directors who rehired City Manager Harold Boldt.

The recall is targeting Ward 2 Director Laney Harris, Ward 3 Director Londell Williams, Ward 5 Director Mike Jones, and Ward 6 Director Sue Johnson.

Texarkana, Arkansas resident Larry Pritchett wants board director Sue Johnson from Ward 6 removed from her position with the city.

He says it because she's one of the four directors who voted to rehire City Manager Harold Boldt.

"This is just a vote nobody understands," said Pritchett.

The Miller County Patriot group initiated the recall petitions.

President Richard Wagnon believes the four directors have not been listening to the majority of citizens.

"The only recourse people have is to go through the political process, this is what we have available to us," said Wagnon.

A notarized letter must be written by a voter in each ward, with a board member that they want recalled.

Once it's approved, they can begin the task of gathering signatures.

Resident Gregg Jones lives in Ward 5 and wants Mike Jones recalled. He says hiring Boldt back just didn't make sense.

"Anybody that's fired from a job, let go, or given a severance package; why would you ever want to fight for that job? They let you go for a reason," said Jones.

Last March, the Board of Directors terminated Boldt from office.

He was given a severance package of $162,000.

Boldt was then rehired by the board by 4 to 2 vote during a special meeting on September 5th.

No decision has been made about Boldt's contract.

The Patriot's group is also seeking to overturn the four city official's decision to rehire Boldt.

Williams did not comment on the recall.

The Miller County Patriots will hold a public forum on September 30th at Bobby Ferguson Park to discuss the recall petition. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
