East Texas doctor offers reward for arrest of burglary suspect

Posted: Updated:
Maud, Texas -

An East Texas doctor who had thousands of dollars worth of firearms and ammunition stolen from his home is offering a reward for information leading to an additional suspect.

He's already paid out some of the reward money, but says he wants all his property back and the criminals brought to justice.

When neurology specialist, Dr. Khalid Malik's home was burglarized, he says thousands of dollars worth of firearms, handguns, ammunition, and some electronics were stolen.

"It's not just the firearms, you don't want guns in the hands of people who break into other people's safes," said Dr. Malik.

He offered a $10,000 reward for the return of his missing property or the arrests and convictions of the thieves.

Since then, he's paid out $3,000 of that reward money.

"We got about 16 guns back, but the rest is still missing," explained Dr. Malik.

Bowie County sheriff officials say Dr. Malik's home off Highway 67, near the old Crystal Springs water park, was broken into twice last June.

Other nearby homes were also burglarized.

Douglas Kyle Burnett, 24, was arrested in July after turning himself in to Bowie County authorities.

He was given 10 years probation.

Dr. Malik is now offering a reward of $1,000 to anyone who has information leading to the whereabouts of Levi Allen Martin, 29, of Maud.

Martin is the last known suspect in the burglary.

He's also offering the remaining $6,000 of the reward money for information leading to the recovery of more of the stolen property.

"There are still about 25 stolen firearms that are worth about $20,000 or more," said Dr. Malik.

Anyone with information on Martin's whereabouts or Dr. Malik's stolen property is asked to contact Investigator David Biggar at 903-628-6748 or Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
