Louisiana Tech prepares for athletic UTEP QB

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

Louisiana Tech knows they are in a must-win situation right now, especially after the loss to Army on Saturday.  The Bulldogs only have conference games left on the schedule.  Unfortunately, they already have a 0-1 start following the Tulane heartbreaker.  But although they are down now, as KTBS' Alex Anderson shows us, Tech knows they're not out.

One and four may seem like a death sentence for most teams in college football, but some players in the bulldog locker room have been here before.

"A couple years ago we went 1-4 and came back to win the WAC championship.  We've got a lot of football to be played and it's not over. That's what we got to keep telling the young guys and other teammates, that it's not over," defensive lineman IK Enemkpali said.

"Shoot anything's possible. We've been here before. We can definitely bounce back, run the table, and win the conference," receiver Andrew Guillot added.

The Bulldogs may be done defending the triple option, but the UTEPp offense brings a whole new list of challenges for Skip Holtz's defense.  And it all begins with their athletic quarterback.

"He's got a 7-1 touchdown to interception ratio, and completing over 60 percent of his passes. I think he's a transfer from Texas A&M.   He was a heavy recruited, highly touted, very talented, athletic quarterback, and he's the guy that makes the thing go," head coach Skip Holtz explained. "He presents some challenges, but when you look at the strength of our defense right now, it's been the defensive line so it will be a great challenge for us to try to keep him contain and yet at the same time try to stop their running game."

With one conference loss already in the books, LA Tech will have to find an answer to the Miners' offense if they want to repeat history.
