University Health unveiled in Shreveport

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

The LSU Health takeover has begun.

At midnight the Biomedical Research Foundation assumed management of the hospital in Shreveport.

Tuesday morning new leaders of the hospital came together to unveil the new logo.

University Health is the new name, although signage is not up yet.

BRF spokesman Jay Meyers said the management transition is going better than expected.

They were concerned about computer glitches, but as of right now there's nothing to report.

"Monday night at 12:01 the dog caught the bus," said BRF CEO John George.

The largest employer in Caddo Parish turned into a private hospital.

The BRF had big promises for the years to come on Tuesday morning.

"Let me assure you that this institution is nothing without the doctors that are provided from us through the medical school. It is my goal to raise their level of pay in the next few years to the extent our budget can afford it," said BRF chairman Steve Skrivanos.

Protecting the medical school will be their number one priority and they say the underprivileged will always get care.

The next step is to fill up a BRF Hospital Holdings' community board to oversee operations.

"We hope to have the nomination process in by this Friday. We should be able to sift through those nominations in the next 30 days," said Skrivanos.

Although there are a few positions unfilled, the BRF is currently contracting them out.

"The key elements are present and we're ready. There's quite a few changes that are facing us, but we see it as a little more flexibility," said University Health administrator Joe Miciotto.

E.A. Conway in Monroe is now under BRF management as well and has been renamed University Health Conway.

Anyone can nominate themselves or someone they know to become a member of the new community board that will govern the hospital.
