Texarkana celebrates Night Night Out

Posted: Updated:
TEXARKANA -

Nearly 40 neighborhoods participated in National Night Out in the Texarkana area.

In Texarkana, Texas, about 24 neighborhoods hosted block parties for residents to meet with police and firefighters to discuss issues concerning crime prevention.

Mayor Bob Bruggeman helped organize one of the events on Desoto Street.

He says the night out parties help residents feel more comfortable about reporting suspicious activities.

In Texarkana, Arkansas, 14 neighborhoods participated in National Night Out.

While that's fewer than last year, organizers say they still had a good turnout.

The Tower of Power Church hosted a block party on Kline street.

Residents not only discussed crime prevention, but they used the event to honor law enforcement officers who put their lives in danger everyday.

Pastor David Watson says the community needs the event to help build a relationship with officers.

If you have information on a crime on either side of the stateline, you're encouraged to call Texarkana Crimestoppers at 903-793-STOP.
