Local libraries want you to geek

Posted: Updated:

Whether it's for football or the arts, the Shreve Memorial Library system wants you to 'geek' and use their libraries to exercise your passion.

It's part of the nationwide Geek the Library campaign, which shines light on the importance of libraries. The Broadmoor branch decided to geek Hispanic culture with A Celebration of Hispanic Cultures. To geek means to hold a deep interest in a subject, game or art. The campaign hopes to encourage people to find such an interest and use library resources to learn more about their passion or meet others with similar interests.

"Whatever it is you geek, the library supports it," Maria Colon, organizer with the Broadmoor branch, said. "This is a public awareness campaign to promote our services out there and get the public into the library."

Geek the Library lasts until September 2014 and is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
