La Supreme Court won't hear truck stop tiger case

Posted: Updated:
NEW ORLEANS -

A truck stop owner trying to continue a quarter-century of showing a live tiger near Baton Rouge has been turned down by the Louisiana Supreme Court. Michael Sandlin says he will keep fighting to keep Tony, his current tiger.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says it cannot confiscate Tony under a judge's order in Sandlin's separate challenge to Louisiana's law against private ownership of big cats.

The Supreme Court refused without comment to hear Sandlin's appeal of rulings that he cannot get a state license to keep Tony at Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete.

Animal Legal Defense Fund attorney Matthew Liebman says that's probably the end of the road in this case.

Sandlin says Tony is loved and has thrived where he is for 13 years.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...
