Rapides deputies make arrests in dog fighting ring

Posted: Updated:

Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office deputies broke up what the agency believes to be a tri-state dog fighting ring.

The Town Talk reports deputies responded to a complaint of a possible burglary Saturday night, but when they drove up to the abandoned home in Alexandria, they found much more.

Sixteen cars with Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana license plates were parked in the overgrown yard. Behind the house, in what detectives called "an orchard," was a fully-equipped dog-fighting ring with floodlights, generators and 10-foot plywood walls. There were three pit bull dogs in various vehicles and one pit bull on a chain.

When the deputies arrived, people scattered, but two men were arrested and a third man was arrested Monday.
