The White stuff

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

Michael White enters his third season as head coach at Louisiana Tech knowing three could be a charm if his team is able to improve at all.  The Bulldogs return four starters from a team that won 27 games, but lost its final two in the regular season before getting bounced unexpectedly in the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament by Texas-San Antonio.

White took over a team which had gone just 2-14 in WAC play and turned things around and while 27 wins is nice, White has made it clear the goal this season is to reach the NCAA Tournament, something the school has not done for 22 years.  Last season ended in the second round of the NIT with a loss at Southern Miss.  This year the Golden Eagles are a conference foe, one of the few teams with which the Bulldogs have any familiarity.

Part of the challenge of the upcoming season by playing in a new conference is having to quickly learn the most important foes, those who the Dogs will face in conference.  White and his staff have been hard at work.  The team will play its home opener November 13 against Centenary, will open conference play at home January 9 against Florida Atlantic and will get its chance to avenge that loss at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg January 19.

Preliminary designs were on display during Tuesday's city council meeting to give the public an idea of what the fire station will look like when they are ready for business sometime next year.
