New businesses on Kings Highway hope future construction will help

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

New businesses are popping up on Kings Highway, but those could have more obstacles than the typical new businesses.

Michelle Moore opened Madison Isabella's Boutique two months ago to help bring Shreveport's fashion forward. She chose the location because of the traffic along Kings Highway. She thought it would bring in a lot of customers, knew nothing about the huge construction overhaul coming to the intersection of Kings and Youree Drive.

"I hope it won't be an issue," said Moore. "I hope it works in our favor rather than be a negative thing. Got to think positive about that."

John Richie with Pop and Pizza next door tries to stay positive too. He and his business partner, Stephanie Smith, moved their shop to the new location on Kings Highway last month. Richie also did not know about the future construction.

"How would it hurt anything? I think even the construction might be good," he said. "Slow traffic down a little bit right here. Maybe bring people in while they wait for traffic to clear up."

Snappy Scrubs Car Wash further down Kings Highway, will also see construction in the next year. The intersection of Kings, East Kings and Shreveport-Barksdale Highway will also get an over haul, going to a typical t-shape intersection.

Jon Isham, Snappy Scrubs manager, said the company knew this construction was coming.

"We are a little nervous. We know that people are going to try and avoid construction," he said. "I do. We know it can definitely hurt us, but we believe the community will stand behind us and help us out."

The construction of those two intersections could begin in about six or seven months. These businesses here hope to have an established clientele by then that will be loyal during the construction.
