Custody Battle Between Animal Control and BraveHeart's Family

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

It's a story that's gone viral on facebook--charges of animal cruelty---and a custody fight over a precious pit bull--now known as "Braveheart." the story of his rescue from abuse--outraged many--while the story of his recovery has inspired others.

And now there's some good news to report, officials have found Braveheart's original owners who released custody of the dog to Caddo Parish Animal Shelter, who says the pup can be released back to those who nursed him back to health.

But that came after a meeting where tensions and emotions ran high between the Braveheart's new found parents and Caddo Parish officials.

Yesterday, Caddo Parish Animal Control came to take Braveheart away from his newfound home because state law says they must take custody of the dog while they investigate animal cruelty for at least 15 days. This disruption came at a critical point in time when the Sparato's say Braveheart was learning to heal after his nightmarish ordeal. Ronda Spataro took Braveheart into her home and nursed him back to health and said, "He's a 4-month-old Pit bull who was locked in a building at a critical age when they are learning to socialize with other animals, people, humans. They need interaction, they need love and that's what we were doing. I never imagined that they would seize him from me"

Caddo Parish officials have not released the name of the person who's responsible for Bravehearts animal cruelty. They can't even confirm that there's been an arrest. What they can say is that Braveheart can be released back to the original animal shelter that found him and hopefully after that his new family should be able to pick him up.
