David Watson is living the good life

HOMER, La. -

He's 63 years old and semi retired but David Watson of Homer, Louisiana is still going strong, living the good life, and his future plans call for more of the same.

David Watson, born and raised in Homer, a little town of around 4,000, which is located north of I-20 on Highway 79 between Minden and Haynesville. The center piece of the town square is the Antebellum Claiborne Parish Courthouse.

For 32 years, Watson was a special agent with navy's ncis. When federal guidelines called for his retirement at 57, he came back to his hometown and became a part-time investigator for the Claiborne Parish DA's Office.

"I have always enjoyed my work and I feel like I can still make a contribution and I was asked to come help out here and my work has expanded since I got here. so I must be making some sort of a contribution" says Watson.

On the town square, besides the Antebellum Courthouse, is another pride and joy of Homer, the Herbert's Ford Museum of which Watson is president of the board of directors.

"I also serve as the museum handyman and just about anything else that Linda Voluntine asks me to do. This museum documents the history of north central Louisiana but particularly Claiborne Parish. This museum is a legacy for the next generations. It's our responsibility for us to maintain it, improve it and then pass it on to the next generation and add more and more things to it.

For Watson, his involvement in the museum, a major part of his good life, is a payback to a community that's always been good to him. 

"Absolutely, this community has been very supportive; it was a wonderful place to grow up in the 50s and 60s. It's still, and I've seen many beautiful places on this earth but this is one of the most beautiful" says Watson. 

Many of Watson's values came from his mother, 93 year old Hessi Watson who is living an older version of the good life. She still gets together on a regular basis with friends for a book clubs and bridge games.

David Watson, who traveled the world with the NCIS returned to his home town and family to live the good life. And if he follows in the footsteps of his mother, he'll be living the good life for years to come.
