The ArkLaTex's Best radio show: The Tim Brando Show

Posted: Updated:

Another Shreveport success story, Tim Brando. He went to Fair Park and started in local radio when he got discovered by ESPN. He now works for CBS Sports and does a daily radio and television show from an amazing studio in the heart of Shreveport.

The early years at ESPN, there in the midst of the remote controlled camera's and led lights of a big city studio. Right there over Tim Brando's left shoulder, the reason.

"I was going to be a broadcaster because of my father" says Brando.

That's him, in the white jacket, little Timmy Brando on the drums. It was his dad's band, Hub Brando you see, saw the potential of this new thing called television.

"He had a kiddies show on Saturday mornings, The Hub Brando search for talent show."

That show might have discovered Tim, the way ESPN did in late 1984.

"I got a call from a lady at ESPN and said would you be available to do a duke and Virginia."

That was the big break. Tim would move to Connecticut, travel America doing college football and basketball and eventually he ended up doing college football Saturdays with CBS but Tim grew up in Shreveport and wanted to come home.

And here he is. A couple of years ago, CBS asked Tim to do a television show for CBS Sports. He could have gone north, instead, "the whole TV show is done from New York through fiber optics." With camera's controlled from New York, Tim spends 3 hours each morning in a state of the art studio having fun.

"We are here to have fun" says Tim.

Time manages to do that with long time side-kick Rogers Hampton, Jay Whatley and northwestern play-by-play man Patrick Netherton.

"We go out to eat on the road people say love you on the Tim Brando show, I'm just a kid from Shreveport" says Tim.

So is he, just a kid from Fair Park who played the drums and listened to his dad and still does.

"When I go on, I'm thinking about my father because he told me always be as good as you can be no matter who you are talking to so I'm always thinking of my dad every time I go on" says Tim.
