Athlete of the Week: Tatum's Jaylen Shans

Posted: Updated:
Tatum, TX -

The Tatum Eagles have blazed out to a 6-0 start, and although their defense has only allowed 34 points this year, Tatum's offense is blowing up scoreboards across East Texas.  The Eagles have put up 315 points, sticking to their ground and pound scheme which an unbeaten White Oak team had trouble containing, especially this week's Rountree Ford Athlete of the Week, Jaylen Shans.

Tatum's Jaylen Shans rushed for 206 yards on 18 carries and 3 touchdowns in the Eagles 42-21 district victory over White Oak Friday night.   Tatum used their bruising rushing attack to total 342 yards on the ground and wear out the Roughneck defense.  They had an especially hard time stopping Shans.

Tatum fought their way back into the game, down 21-7.  The Eagles tied the game before the half.  And instead of losing their momentum, a White Oak fumble at the 1 yard line pitted Tatum deep in their own territory until Shans broke out on an 84 yard touchdown run.   But the senior has not only been as asset on the field for Evans, but in the huddle as well.

The 5th ranked Tatum Eagles have proven to be frontrunner of their district and will hit the road Friday to face Troup.
