Airline flying high: Smith named to All-America team

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, La -

Airline High School defensive tackle O.J. Smith an Alabama commit, today was named an Under Armour All-American.  The Under Armour game will be played January 2nd in St. Petersburg, Florida.

During today's ceremony at Airline the point was made that there are two million high school football players in this country, but only 90 are named to this game.  13 are from the state of Louisiana, the most from any one state.

Smith says it has been a dream of his to play in the Under Armour game.  He says he watched the game a year ago with players like former Alabama star Dee Liner and is excited about having his chance to play too.  Airline head coach Bo Meeks said there couldn't be a player more deserving.  Meeks says Smith has worked hard every day to improve as a player, but he has also been a great ambassador for Airline High School.

Smith says, with all the Louisiana stars who will be playing in the game,  he's looking forward to going against West Monroe offensive lineman Cam Robinson, who's a fellow Alabama commit.  Smith says he has never played against Robinson.  He will get his chance, on ESPN, right after the new year.
