Apparent pipe bombs in Carencro; 8 homes evacuated

Posted: Updated:

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says eight houses in Carencro have been evacuated and a man has been arrested after a detective saw what appeared to be pipe bombs in a pickup truck.

Capt. Kip Judice (JOO-dees), says the state police hazardous materials unit is dealing with the suspected bombs.

He says a detective stopped the truck about 2 p.m., after it left a house that neighbors had complained was the site of apparent drug activity.

The evacuation remained in effect hours later. Several streets were blocked off.

Judice says the man had not yet been booked. He was described as a white man in his 20s.

He says the man was alone in the truck, and detectives are looking for another man as part of the drug investigation.

It appears the City of Shreveport can move forward with the most pressing bond issues without Grigsby and Associates. Instead they are using in-house staff with the assistance of bond counsel which are made up of local attorneys.
