SHREVEPORT, La. -

The current branch of the Koran Community Library is a manufactured building, and it's not very big. That will change soon with the plans of a new library are almost complete, with a $2.7 million price tag.

"It is overwhelming!" said Mary Sanders. "It's a lot to learn, but I'm willing to do whatever I need to do."

Sanders is the branch manager at the Koran Community Library, but works at the Haughton branch most days. Bossier parish's smallest library is only open one day a week. That will change with the new building

"This one might be five to six days," she said. "We're not really sure right now. Whatever we have to do to draw people into the library."

But the facility itself might do that. The mostly glass 4,000 square foot building will be located just a half a mile away from the current building surrounded by woods.

"There's going to be a patio area in the front of the library; a patio area in the back of the library," said Bob Brotherton, the Bossier Parish Police Juror for the area. "You're going to have the woods, which there's an abundance of wildlife out there."

Brotherton said the library will be more like a community center with a meeting room inside.

"We think it will be a draw because of all the different activities that will be offered at the library. We think people will embrace it and will be here."

Depending on how the bids go, if there is money left over, the library system hopes to add playground equipment and walking trails.

The project is out for bids right now. They will be opened on November 13, with hopefully construction starting close to the end of the year. The library system hopes to be in its new building by the end of 2014.
