Family remembers Shreveport shooting victim Johnathan Davis

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

At a prayer vigil for Johnathan Davis Thursday evening family members comfort each other, ask for more information about the shooting, and plead for an end to gun violence.

"Why was Johnathan the victim that night? We don't know," says Karen Moore to a crowd dressed mostly in red, her nephew's favorite color. "We don't have a lot of answers to a lot of questions."

His mother Wanda Davis says she spent so many years raising her only son and comforted him through heart surgery just before Christmas last year, only to have him gunned down while filling up his gas tank.

She says nobody deserves an ending like that especially not someone so well-liked and kind as Johnathan.

"I just know he was in pain, and I wasn't there," Wanda Davis says of her son's last moment driving himself to the hospital. "As a mom, you're supposed to be there to keep the pain away from your children. You're supposed to protect them from the pain and I couldn't do that for my baby."

Johnathan leaves behind a large family and a 11-year-old daughter Adrianna, another young life forever changed by Saturday's shooting.

"I miss him for myself, for my aunts, for my cousins, for my mother, for everyone," says cousin Keondra Moore. "I know he's in a better place though."
