Nearly $10 Million in Capital Outlay Funds Coming to NWLA

Posted: Updated:

More than $10 million dollars in state funding for capital projects are coming to Northwest Louisiana. The bulk of that money is going to medical facilities.

For example, $8.1 million dollars of that total went to medical facilities across Northwest Louisiana.

$1.9 million dollars went to organizations, medical or otherwise, in Lincoln, Bienville, Webster, and Claiborne Parishes.

And Bossier and Caddo parish received a total of $8.4 million dollars.

With the $1.5 million dollars Biomed has received from the state, for a new P.E.T. clinical and research imaging machine, doctors can now look at images give you a better diagnosis of what's wrong when you're sick and a better plan of how to make you better. And officials say, this project alone will help thousands in our area. It's just one of the projects that were approved to receive millions of dollars for the state's new public private hospital partnership.

Jay Meyer's, VP External Affairs, BioMedical Research Foundation said, "The machine provides the opportunity for physicians to diagnose and treat many diseases in a lot more visible fashion. We're going to not only be able to service our patients in North Louisiana better, but we're also going to be able to advance our research program in a much more robust fashion."

Meyers says this all came to pass because of the work of our local state legislators. "Because of the hard work that they did, we're going to have the opportunity to move forward with this machine that's going to help patients from around North Louisiana. It's going to provide the opportunity for patients to have more reliable care because of the cyclotron."

The capital outlay dollars not only went to healthcare services, but they also went to state colleges, universities and infrastructure. Governor Jindal says these investments will improve the quality of life in our area and attract more businesses and people.
