Legendary coach dies at 90

Posted: Updated:
HOUSTON, Tx. -
A Houston coaching legend has passed away.

Bum Phillips, who guided the Houston Oilers to back to back AFC title games died yesterday.

In a tweet, his son, wade Phillips wrote, "Bum is gone to heaven-loved and will be missed by all -great dad, coach, and Christian."

Phillips was a legend in Houston, having coached the Oilers from 1975 through 1980, guiding the team to the AFC championship game two straight years.

Phillips was known nearly as much for his signature cowboy hat; that he was nearly always seen in; as he was for coaching.

Phillips was 90 years old.
