MARSHALL, Tx -

It's a big night for East Texas Baptist's softball team as one of their own is up for one of the most prestigious awards in the NCAA.  Lya Swaner is one of 9 finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The Tigers former catcher is the first female student-athlete from the American Southwest Conference to make it to the top 9 and only the fourth to advance to the top 30, out of the 450 nominees.

In Swaner's four years at ETBU she won a NCAA Division III National Championship, two American Southwest Conference Championships, and a NCAA Regional Championship.  Swaner graduated in may with a double major degree in chemistry and biology with a 3.85 grade point average.
