Miles aims to play youth without jeopardizing wins

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La -

Les Miles figures it's time to start tinkering with his lineups as LSU aims to strike a balance between winning and building for the future.

Miles stresses that, "First and foremost, it's about victory." However, the coach adds that some younger Tigers deserve more playing time, and he says, "they're going to get it."

LSU's 27-24 upset loss at Ole Miss last weekend marked the Tigers' second setback in the Southeastern Conference. LSU is now unlikely to catch No. 1 Alabama for the Western Division title.

This Saturday's homecoming game with Furman probably would have provided an opportunity for Miles to get a better handle on the future of his program in any event. Furman is in the second-tier Football Championship Subdivision, and the Tigers will be prohibitive favorites.
