Local murder suspect captured in Florida

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. -

A Natchitoches Parish murder suspect wanted in connection with the October 13th, Home Invasion and shooting death of a Creston man has been captured in South Florida according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.

Alan Virgil Brumfield, 48 of the 7000 block of La. Hwy 6, Natchitoches, La., was captured Tuesday at approximately 9:00am in the Everglades near Naples, Florida in connection with the October 13th home invasion and murder of Ted Charles Brou, 37.

Chief of Investigations Detective Greg Dunn says than an All Points Bulletin was issued shortly after the homicide occurred which included the vehicle and suspect description.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Detectives had been executing search warrants, and gathering evidence during the initial stages of the investigation.

On Sunday, Collier County Sheriff's Deputies located the suspect vehicle (Nissan Sentra) abandoned in Naples, Florida.

Collier County Sheriff's Deputies along with the assistance of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Agents issued broadcasts of the murder suspect being in the area.

Sheriff Jones, stated that law enforcement tips to Collier County Sheriff's Deputies this morning led to Brumfield's capture.

"Reportedly Brumfield was wet during his capture, while hiding in the Everglades".

Brumfield, has been booked into the Collier County Detention Center charged with Natchitoches Parish charges of: 1-Count of First Degree Murder, 1-Count of Home Invasion, and 1-Count of Second Degree Kidnapping.

Sheriff Jones said that the deputies and the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney's Office waiting to see if Brumfield will sign extradition before being transported to Natchitoches.

Sheriff Jones, stated that he is proud of the hard work performed by detectives in this case. "We also extend our thanks to the citizens of Naples, Florida for their tips and to the Collier County Sheriff's Office,in the capture of this dangerous suspect.

We would also like to thank the news media, Louisiana State Police Fusion Center, US Marshal Fugitive Apprehension Task Force, ROCIC Intelligence Center, Florida Highway Patrol and Miami-Dade Police for their assistance in the case.

Detective Wyn McDowell is lead investigator, assisted by Detective Jonathan Byles in the investigation.
