CADDO PARISH, La. -

A Caddo Parish Judge sentenced Erik Mack Junior to 26 years for the shooting death of Demario Scott.

The shooting happened back in August of 2011. Erik Mack Jr. of Bossier City was originally charged with First Degree Murder but a Caddo Parish jury wound up finding him guilty of manslaughter.

Police say that Demario Scott rear-ended a truck at the Milam Street and Hearne Avenue intersection on August 5, 2011. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Scott suffering from a gunshot wound. Police say the shooting stemmed from an unknown argument between Mack and Scott. Scott was shot as he was driving down Hearne Avenue.

Caddo Parish Judge Ramona Emanuel sentenced Erik Mack Jr. to 26 years at hard labor.

Damario Scott's family is finally getting to start the healing process.

Damario Scott's mother, Millicent Scott, tells KTBS 3 News that "we're just picking up the pieces and starting the healing process. Both families are hurting because two lives were lost. I lost my son and the other family's son is going to be in jail for a long time."

Millicent Scott also says that "the violence in Shreveport is out of control. She says that law enforcement officers can only do so much but the real change starts at home within the family, friends and neighborhood."

With a rise in online classes, many educational institutions are asking the question, how can they maintain academic integrity in the digital age. More and more students are getting educated through online sources, to match courses to their busy schedules, avoid long commutes or to save money.
