Haughton: working on its Craft(s)

Posted: Updated:
HAUGHTON, La. -

Haughton plays in one of the toughest high school football districts in the entire state of Louisiana, District 1-5A which includes the likes of Byrd, Parkway and Airline High Schools.  The Bucs have held their own this season, 5-2 overall, 1-1 in district, but 0-1 against the Big Three.  One of the many reasons Haughton has been considered a team to keep an eye on would be the way the Bucs have worked on their "craft."  as a matter of fact, they have two... Crafts.. But Alex Anderson found out more on running back Jarred Craft, our Rountree Ford Athlete of the Week.

For the past few years it's been nearly impossible to go to a Haughton football game without hearing the name Craft.  The Buccaneers' dynamic running back Jarred, a Louisiana Tech commit, has been a crucial piece of the team ever since he arrived.

Haughton head coach Rodney Guin says, "He's a big part of our team.  He's a good running back, He works hard at practice, does things we need him to do, and he's very important to us to win football games."  Guin continues, "He's a leader in the locker room, weight room, and he does everything he's supposed to do to try to help us win and that's what we need him to do."

As for Jarred, he gives all the credit to his teammates.  "I just got to give it up to my line.  Guys like Travis White, Kareem, Karkar, people like that mean a lot to me blocking wise, my wide receivers too.  They block for me and I just read their blocks."  And Jarred isn't the only Craft making big plays for the Bucs.  His brother Jerrod is also an important part of the team.  Jarred says suiting up with his sibling has been a great part of his time in Haughton, a feeling not shared by their opponents.

The editor and publisher of Louisiana Football Magazine, Lee Brecheen, a contributor to Friday Football Fever says, "The Craft brothers Jarred and Jerrod.  They're running back, linebacker, safety, receiver.  Between the two brothers they play about seven positions.  They're seniors, they're both college prospects, and they're very valuable to Haughton."

Jarred says, "Playing with my brother is a great experience. He knows what I expect of him and it's just a great feeling for him to be out there on the field with me."

The entire team feels the same way about Jarred.
